In this episode of This vs. That, we talk with Dr. Ed Welch about the relationship between discipleship and counseling. We explore the similarities and differences between the two, and emphasize the importance of understanding when to seek counseling versus when to seek discipleship. We also discuss the generational differences in mental health language and how to help individuals reform their thinking about counseling.

Welch stresses the importance of having a wise and loving friend, and suggests that pastors continue to meet with individuals and invite them to speak openly about their struggles. Overall, this episode highlights the need for a culture where it is natural to speak about our needs and to reach out for help, and where pastors communicate that neediness is normal and that we always need Jesus.

We hope you enjoy the conversation.
